SEE & DO
Chateau Cheverny
— Privately owned for over six centuries you can view all the rooms and furnishings unchanged. A comfortable golf buggy can transport you around the scenic grounds. Opposite there's a fine bistro 'Le Pichet'. Don't miss the Tin Tin museum and the boat road around the ground's private canal.

Chinon - Castle and Fortress
— The castle was once a 12th Century fortress and home to the former King of England Henry II. It is here that he was defeated by his sons and died in the grounds. Many parts of the Chateau are in ruins but under major renovation. If you're brave you can enter the deep dark dungeon, although lack of air may have you exiting quickly! If you do down, don't miss the carvings made by the 'Knights Templar' who were imprisoned in the 13th.
Joan of Arc began her quest at Chinon to save France from the English and persuaded the Dauphin to declare himself King of France and raise an army although further persuading was needed at the Loches Chateau for history buffs. Don't miss the shrine to Joan of Arc.

The Royal City of Loche
— This medieval town holds many surprises, including a working tortue chamber, (well it hasn't been used for a while) dungeons and tunnels that give a glimpse of the arduous middle ages.
Chateau de Loches is one of oldest castles in the Loire, built in the 11th Century it was once the home of Agnés Sorel, mistress of Charles VII. Renown for her beauty, sex appeal and intelligence her influence over the King was envied at court and it is suspected she was poisoned by mercury. Don't miss the dungeons and a gentle wonder around the town. .

The Cathedral
— The cathedral is best seen at night. Once inside you can only marvel at the 12th and 13th century stained glass and admire the collection of ancient musical instruments. There are many restaurants in the nearby rue Colbert.

La Scénoférie de Semblançay
— This is a wonderful French spectacle recounting the history of France throughout the ages, dating back to the Gaul then roman times, middle ages, religious conflict, Louis XIV right through to the revolution.
Brilliantly performed, even though the cast of over 400 are mainly locals in this rather big production. You won't be disappointed in the lighting effects, authentic costumes, fireworks and special effects. There are several scenes with wonderful horsemanship. The only downside is that the show starts when the sun sets, which can be as late as 10.45pm, so difficult for small children, however my six-year old loved it and stayed awake until it finished at 12.15 and, it is of course, holiday time! Shows in July / August 2008
2008 dates: 28 Juin, July 5, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26
August, 1, 2, 8, 9 15, 16
